Gary Mullins DipABRSM - Teacher

"Life is like a piano. What you get out of it depends on how you play it.” – Tom Lehrer

Accomplished musician Gary Mullins has been successfully teaching music professionally for over 17 years. As a teacher and performer Gary aspires to the highest standards, and has achieved wide recognition both as a musician and educator.  Having passed Grades 5 to 8 in piano within 18 months (being awarded the Henry, Edith and Constance Haddon Memorial Prize for three successive terms for achieving the best marks in Grades 5,6 and 7 from all the candidates in South Wales) he was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London but transferred it to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he achieved his first diploma (DipABRSM) under concert pianist Fazliddin Husanov.

Amazingly talented, he’s thankful for his musical gift and his love for teaching, passing on his passion for music to his students in the Piano Studio Cardiff, which Gary owns and has run for the last 7 years. He currently employs 3 teachers – all with a distinctly impressive 100% pass rate. All at the studio are dedicated to helping pupils excel, while understanding the importance of being a family-friendly environment. Teachers are very happy for parents to stay during lessons and, of course, are always available to discuss students’ progress.

Gary’s ethos is that music is for everyone and that it’s never too early -  or too late -  to begin learning.  He embraces teaching all musical styles, and at all levels, from classical and romantic to pop and rock, providing students with the techniques needed to achieve any style of piano they wish. His lessons are fun and engaging, and the Studio welcomes those who wish to play for fun and enjoyment as well as those who wish to pass exams.

He is currently the Musical Director of St Margaret’s Church and Assistant Organist of St Edward’s Church, and regularly performs at civic services for the Lord Mayor and at concerts to raise much needed funds for various charities. He also teaches at St. Teilo’s High School where he directs the choir.

Gary is patient, innovative, creative, and confident, as well as being devoted to an incredibly high standard, and quality, of musical education.
